Journal #2

I think that Matthew Ward's translation has the most literary value because the other translator does not follow as closely to the writings of Camus. The other translator changes words to make it appeal more to an American reader where as Camus is French. I do not feel like things like that should differ from that of the original. I believe it defeats the purpose of the intention of Camus in the first place. He wrote it how he wanted it and translations should reflect his intentions.

I would change the title to Unconnected because it seems as if Mersualt is very distant from the world and he does not see things the way most do. He disconnects himself from feelings and emotions, in my opinion to reduce the pain.
"For now it's almost as if Maman weren't dead." (Pg.3)
He doesn't make the sudden connected and it does not sink in yet that his mother is dead. Later on in the book, he also distances himself from the girl he likes.
On page 117 him and Celeste are talking about what happens when people die and he doesn't seem to have deep consideration or care for things like death.
